Race to the top of New York

It was a literal race to the top of New York City as 290 runners climbed the 86 floors of the Empire State Building. An Australian woman and a German man took home first place trophies for climbing the 1,576 steps of the city’s tallest skyscraper. Australian Suzy Walsham took up stair running to win a trip to New York, and ended up with the winner’s trophy for her 13 minutes, 12 seconds finish. Germany’s Thomas Dold won his second successive race up the New York landmark building with a time of 10:25, more than 30 seconds ahead of the second place finisher. Dold said he was nervous about the race because he was not as fit as he was for last year’s. Reuters 1968/07

    The WORST organized …
The WORST organized race in the world. First, the only way you can get into the race is by qualifying races, some of which aren’t open to the public, the one in my area was only open to police, firemen and EMTs. Second, mass start is bogus as if you aren’t in the first 10 people to the stairs it is a complete traffic jam. Third the women start 5 minutes before and that just causes more traffic as the men have to pass all the stragglers. Should open qualifying races to all, and stagger the start.
