The first Womens Olympic Marathon saw a courageous move by young Joan Benoit of the Unites States. A few months removed from surgery she dared the field (and herself) to follow an early blistering pace. 1984 LA Olympics. Epic.

    I taped this race on vhs as it happened & when she came out of the tunnel @ the Colisium that final lap is right up there w/1980 Olympic Hockey Kirk Gibson 1988 home run…..that was a great 2 weeks in summer ‘84.
