I know, i really hate how it seems like your being cheated! but they all start on differnet lines in a diagnol pattern, and then end at the same point. except in relays, they handoff in the same place where they started (diagnol formation) The outer line has to be further ahaead so he/she will technically be at the same distance from the finish as the inside person.

They all run the same distance. Each person runs a 200 meters. It may appear some of the first people run a shorter distance becuase its staggered to start, which means that some people start on the outside lane but are moved ahead farther (they must stay in thier lane the entire time they run) and end up running the same distance becuase they are on the outside.

If hand offs are made in the middle of the exchange zone, yes, each leg should run the same distance.

Yes, because all the runners start and end up in the same place, but in theory, the person in the inner lane runs the shorter distance than the person in the far outer lane.
