who is the fastest runner in the world and how fast can this person run?

thought of this earlier today.. anyone got any ideas?

The gold standard for determing the "world’s fastest man" is the men’s 100m dash. Michael Johnson ran the 200 and 400.

The world record holder in the men’s 100m dash is Jamaica’s Asafa Powell, who ran the 100 in 9.74 seconds on 9 September, 2007, at the IAAF Rieti Grand Prix in Rieti, Italy.

    As of 2000 Michael Johnson is, but Im pretty sure a different athlete took his spot…I just cant remember his name, Im very sorry =/
