There was an article in the NY Times in their "Play" magazine, "Going Long. Way Long." It was about running shoes for marathon training. Although, I am not a marthon runner I do jog.
The shoes mentioned in the article are:
1) Spira Genesis II
2) Asics Gel-Kinsel
3) Adidas Adizero RC 2
4) New Balance RC550
5) Rebook Trinity KFS
Are they any good…for my purpose? I only plan on running under three miles, but my feet get tired and I don’t want to hurt my joints.

I’ve been running on Reebox for three years now, so they have my vote

I’ve been a serious Marathon/Triathlon competitor for 23 years, and I always go with Asics. That gel sole can’t be beat1 My second choice would be New Balance.

For me, it must be New Balance RC550. Some of these other shoes may be good, but they don’t fit my wide feet. New Balance is the only brand I can find in 9EEEEE.

The key is that the shoe fits your foot.
I would recomend going to a local running store. Talk to the help there, most of them are very knowledgeable about running shoes. They will help you find a shoe that fits your foot and your needs. Don’t worry about sounding stupid, it’s better to feel a little embarrassed then feel a huge pain in your joints.

There is no such thing as a best running shoe. Some people even think that running shoes are unnatural and are the cause of so many running injuries in the western world.

I’m a big New Balance or Asics fan, myself.

You need to go to a good running store and have them analyze your stride. The best running shoe is the one that fits your foot-strike, stride, weight, etc. the best.
