Be it Symphonic, Raw, Folk, Prog, mixed with Death, Power and Thrash, or all the above.
Just the 5 Black Metal albums that you absolutely would not leave behind if you had to evacuate ahead of a natural disaster, and 5 was all you could have.
Mine?
1) "OM" – Negura Bunget (2006)
-IMO the best album of the decade, and possibly beyond, of ANY sort of Metal. Black, Folk and Prog all in one.
2) "TO THE NAMELESS DEAD" – Primordial (2007)
-Epic hardly begins to describe this masterpiece. Still my fave Black Metal band after 16 years. The atmosphere is amazing, the vocals beyond.
3) "VERISAKEET" – Moonsorrow (2005)
- Pretty much all the reasons I listed for "OM", though I admit I could easily swap this for their
"Varjoina Kuljemme Kuolleiden Maassa" Album, which I think is just as epic, and even MORE tribal in it’s execution.
4) "DEATH CAME THROUGH A PHANTOM SHIP" – Carach Angren (2010)
-IMO, the best Symphonic Black album of the 2000s (Thanks ShredDok for showing me this) being one of the very few to use clean production and not lose the feel and atmosphere, though I think the songwriting and lyrics helped to balance that. A wonderful concept album to boot.
5) "AXIOMA ETHICA ODINI" – Enslaved (2010)
-The most outright Progressive of the albums, on the verge of almost not being Black Metal anymore, but with just the right amount of brutal interludes to count. I actually could not believe this was Enslaved when I hear it, as it was just as brilliant as their earlier work, yet so unexpected. But much like Sigh’s avante garde turn, I find this their most exciting album, out of a long list of great ones.
MQ- So.. what are yours?
MQ2- Opinions on my 5 selections?
MQ3- What album was the runner up that JUST missed the cut?
(Imaginary Sonicscape by Sigh, for me)
BQ- cats or dogs…. and why?
@ Honorary Walrus.. dude I have asked like 3 about American Idol… what more do you want?
@Bend the Skies "Mare Nostrum" is the best Power Black album pretty much ever dude.
@ HW.. you like hair balls?
@Tron.. yup.. I pretty well forgot the parameters of my own question! Probably reason #21 one should not be trying to post in depth Q&As when under the influence of stomach flu/ food poisoning / god only knows what, last night. (a condition rumor has it, you may be familiar with?)
I think I was answering Darth’s question about Epic Albums of the 2000s and the two kinda got merged…… oops.
so, to fix that I will go with one that seems popular, for good reason
Drudkh – Blood in our Wells (2006)
(cuz it is awesome.. Black for Death: An Icelandic Odyssey : Part II (Solefald) is close up too, though Red could pretty well substitute for it. Call me crazy, I usually listen to them back to back anyhow…..)
btw… I choose CATS!!! and this type in particular
@Ana.. nice pick, totally captured his cattitude!
MA:
will edit details in a bit
Nocte Obducta – Nektar: Teil 2 (2005)
- love this album, has some characteristics Black metal but they nicely infuse it with elements of Prog, jazz, death but keep the atmospheric element of BM quite nicely. The songs are fairly lengthy but have enough variation that this album always keeps me interested
Negura Bunget – Om (2006)
- not sure what else to add to your description, but like you say…Black/Folk/prog all together create an album that is great to listen to from start to finish
Drudkh – Blood in our Wells (2006)
- probably the closest album to pure BM on here…..and even then you’re not gonna confuse this with Darkthrone. Good riffs, drumming and even some solos…but still have a great atmosphere to it
Cobalt – Gin (2009)
-crushing riffs, varied drumming….doesn’t sound like typical BM description, but the sense of BM still remains yet still fresh
Enslaved – Axioma Ethica Odini (2010)
- what can yuo say about enslaved…each album seems to progress to a different style but all albums seem to work for them. Their latest release is no different as they have become more and more progressive in their last 3 albums…was a treat to go see them last year and hear them live
MA2: all 5 albums are great…that moonsorrow is probably lowest on my list…I would have chosen this years release
MA3: Vried – Milorg, Mistur – Attende, Taake self titled albums were all up there
….isn’t sigh – imaginary Sonicscape released in 2001?
BA2: dogs, can actually do things with them like walks/hikes etc….
***all too familiar…not the most pleasant feeling for sure
***ahh, forgot about that Falkenbach album…I keep thinking that was released earlier
No trophies for an eternity and not even a runners up place since 2005. Disgraceful.
So many reasons for him to go, yet still they’re all saying "IAWT" and alot of Arsenal fans still seem to think they’ll magically be better next year without making any changes.
Fabregas, Nasri, Sagna and Van Persie will all be off soon if Arsenal continue the way they are, might be worth us putting a sneaky bid for Nasri in summer actually lol
Ah well, if nothing changes then we’ll be talking about exactly the same thing at exactly the same time next year.
I was wondering because its not listed on the drivetrain specs. Does A-Trac make a big difference when off-roading? I know the newer FJ’s come standard with this. And if the 2005 runner doesnt come with it, do any have that option?
If you don’t drive enough miles to change your oil by mileage, then I would recommend twice per year, once at the beginning of winter, and once at the end of winter. Winter is particularly hard on engines and oil, since people tend to drive more, drive shorter distances, idle a lot, and may rarely get the engine to operating temperature for extended periods. Cold starts are the worst, cold idling is nearly as bad. So, starting winter with good oil is important, then change the oil at the end of winter to get all the sludge and buildup out.
Of course, as others have mentioned, follow whatever your manual tells you, I expect it is 7500 miles or 6 months. If it says once per year, I would change the oil right at the beginning of winter, for reasons stated above…but they won’t void your warranty if you change the oil more often than the recommended minimum.
Last bit, always change the oil hot, so it evaporates all the water, and picks up all the sludge so it will drain out. A good 30 minute drive at a minimum, a full hour is better, before an oil change. Do this and you should never need to "flush" your engine.
Im training for the half marathon and Im a bit behind the time I have to be at, to not be picked up by the sag wagon. I’m trying to find out how long it usually takes all the runners to cross the starting line so I know if i need to position myself near the middle of the pack(so i can average a little bit extra time) or if i should just go to the back.
I was so far back I didn’t even hear the gun go off, I think it took something like a half hour.
