well the whole afghan war is described in the novel, from the afghani point of view, whereas on news and documentaries we always see it the europena/american point of view. it also shows alot of afghani culture, emmgiration issues for an afghan to move to america. it shows how politics in a country can be unstable e.g the taliban, russians. the russian guy on the train wanting to have sex with the lady in the back also shows problems which happen in afghanistan at the time of the war with the russians..

religion is shown by the character hassan especially as he is more religious than amir, and also amir’s dad on the idea of lying as the only sin.

prejudice is shown within the afghans themselves, they dislike the ‘hazara’s which amir is, and this is the main reason why he is raped and the plot unfolds fom there.
prejudice is also shown when amir and his father move to america and amirs dad doesnt let a russian doctor check him because he is still prejudiced against the russian for spoiling his country.

multiculturalism is shown by the flea markets in america, and how amir meets his future wife there, it is a sort of get together place for afghans. when they egt married, it shows afghan tradition.
