No carpet runners are meant to be done straight to the stairs. Doing it over the carpet and pad will create to much cushion and cause a tripping hazard. GL

I have a wool carpet runner installed on my stairs. Yesterday my dog had an accident and peed down the stairs. I used Dawn dish soap to try to clean the stain at first, but now I have blue stains from the Dawn. I tried Woolite carpet cleaner, but that didn’t work to get the blue out. I’m trying not to resort to a professional cleaner if I don’t have to. Any suggestions? Thanks!
The blue stain is from using blue colored Dawn dish soap. The carpet is a light cream color.

Rinse the spot with warm water to remove the dish washing detergent until the blue is gone. With one part white vinegar and 3 parts water wet the spot and soak up with a sponge or an old towel. Repeat several times. This will clean up the doggy pee and deoderise the spot. If any odour left when the carpet is dry, sprinkle bicarb soda over the spot and leave for a day or so. Vacuum up.

White vinegar deoderises, helps prevent colours fading and is a natural antibacterial. One part white vinegar and one part water in a spray bottle can be sprayed to deoderise rooms (cheaper than fabreeze) and on kitchen benchtops to "sanitise" them.

Bicarb soda is also an odour eater and works wonders in the laundry as a booster for washing detergent.

The same people who sell the standard sized red carpet runners can sell you customized sizes, but you will need to allot more than just a week for your order to be delivered. These are distributors and manufacturers of crowd control equipment, and they’re easily found on the internet. Their prices are pretty reasonable and the quality is good. You may want to look at crowdcontroldirect.com for these runners.

We are sanding the floorboards of our loft bedroom but thinking of putting carpet/runner on the stairs but I cant think how you would finish the carpet at the top of the stairs. Does anyone have advice or preferably images as I I am not sure how it would look. There is a door at the bottom of the stairs so stairs are in the room.

Most hard wood will have a over hang . Most often there is a pc called a stair nosing. If there is an overhang of the flooring, the carpet is cut flush to the bottom of the overhang. If there is no overhang and the wood is flush, all you can do is turn and tack the carpet either flush with the wood or hold it down just a bit so the edges don t get worn from foot traffic going up and down the stairs.
One other way is to finish and stain the last riser ( or all of them) and stop the carpet on the stair tread where it meets the riser..
Any questions you can e mail me through my avatar, GL

at weddings there are white crashes. A crash is a long carpet runner. Ask at a place that sells wedding gowns, does wedding services (like a wedding chapel or even a church, ask the secretary there), or at a place that rents tuxedoes. If they have white crashes probably they can order for you a red crash as well.

If you are concerned about the indention’s the recliner makes, that is not a problem. When you move it just put some warm water in the ridges. The carpet will bounce back.
